Rattles are the sound of the North in the medicine wheel. Their sound assimilate the rain therefore a good cleanser of dense energies stuck in body, mind or spaces. They are also used for traveling into other realms, journeying to the North where our ancestors, teachers and guides live.
In this Ceremonial workshop you will craft a traditional, yet upgraded Horse-rattle for ceremonial and healing use. As I recently received a download to “update” the rattle to “current” where as they are asking to be filled with crystals instead of the traditional corn. They want to have copper wrapped around the handle to balance the yin/yang energy and act as a conductor between the spiritual and physical realm. So I listen and follow. Therefore we will be creating this updated version.
Once sacred space has been opened and everyone has voiced their presence in the circle we will receive the materials for bringing these tools through. The first step is to make the holes and sew them together. We will be filling them with sand to take the desired shape and let them dry while taking our one hour lunch break. As the afternoon unfolds and the rattles rest and dry, we enter a shared field of sound and listening. This sound meditation arises naturally from the rhythm of the day—a pause, a tending, a space where creation continues in a quieter way.
Sound has always been one of humanity’s first languages, rhythm and tone have always guided the nervous system, organized perception, and opened pathways of imagination and insight. As layered sound moves through the body, neural activity begins to slow, inviting the brain into alpha and theta states—states where creativity awakens, emotions reorganize, and the mind softens its grip.
Vibration travels through fascia, breath, and bone, allowing tension and stored patterns to release without effort. The body remembers how to settle. Awareness widens. Inner listening deepens. In this state, rest and creativity are not separate—they arise together.
This sound bath is held as a quiet celebration within the ceremony, honoring rhythm, material, and the unseen processes at work. It is guided by crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, gongs, ceremonial rattles, and botanical essences, creating a resonant environment that supports integration, insight, and renewal as the instruments we are birthing take their own time to become.
After this experience, the rattles should be dry and ready to be assembled. This is when we will exchange the sand for crystals, decorate them and wrap the copper around the handle.
Exchange is $277 and includes all materials and Soundbath.
Register by paying in full.

I highly recommend this offering for its intentionality and grounding in the ancient, revered practice of rattle-making. Mia has organized the process in a way that is easy to follow while still honoring the essential individual journey of birthing one’s rattle. Her voice is powerful, her presence is welcoming, and her heart is open—full of love and care.

The nature of natural hide
Rawhide as it is a living material and comes from wild animals, it will not be uniform in thickness or perfect in looks. There will be scarring, cut marks, and occasionally a hole near the edge of the round. Know that these imperfections do not compromise the voice of your drum. Consider any tiny flaws to be the spirit and story of that particular animal. This is their spirit voice speaking once again. The vibration, energy and sound is what holds the powerful medicine they offer.
Hides are a byproduct; no animal is ever killed for the rawhide.
